Prime Minister Leads Tourism Push in China

It was a big week last week for New Zealand in China, with tourism under the spotlight thanks to the Prime Minister and Tourism Minister John Key’s presence in Shanghai.

John Key, in China to mark special celebrations around New Zealand’s National Day on 9 July at the Shanghai Expo, undertook some special events to promote New Zealand tourism.

Last Thurday he appeared on a popular television talk show – Kevin Hours – hosted by TV celebrity Kevin Cao. The interview was watched by an estimated over two million Chinese viewers on the night, and many more through repeats and internet coverage.

Jump Start for PR in South Africa

Former Springbok Percy Montgomery took a leap of faith to help promote New Zealand on Tuesday. The retired South African footballer jumped off Auckland's Sky Tower, as part of a publicity stunt arranged by Tourism New Zealand and Tourism Auckland to promote next year's Rugby World Cup.

New Zealand Takes Bollywood by Storm

New Zealand has won over the Bollywood film industry, with another Indian film scheduled to shoot on Kiwi soil, as I Hate Luv Storys storms the box office. I Hate Luv Storys – partly filmed in Queenstown - premiered in India on 2 July. On opening day it ranked as India’s 12th best net grossing movie of all time.

Cycleway Peddling Ahead

The first of New Zealand’s national cycleway was officially launched on Friday 2 July by Prime Minister John Key. Two large sections of a trail that runs south from Ruapehu in the central North Island through the Whanganui region to the western coast were opened at a launch ceremony at the Ohakune Railway Station.

Entries for the 2010 Tourism Industry Awards close at 5pm on Wednesday 14 July, so ensure your entry is completed and lodged with TIA by then. The tourism industry's premier awards programme has been comprehensively reviewed for 2010 and is focusing on innovation in all aspects of tourism business. Competition is expected to be strong in each of the categories this year, TIA Chief Executive Tim Cossar says.
